Reasons Behind Delay of KCSE 2023 Release by CS Machogu

Marking of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2023 ended last week and parents and students are yearning to receive their results.

1. Why is KNEC reluctant to release the examination before Christmas?

After marking the KCSE 2023 examination held at various centers including Starehe Girls Centre, Kiambu High School, Machakos Girls and others. Originally planned from November 27 to December 11, 2023, the designation has been extended by two days, affecting the planned release of results between December 16 and 22, 2023. Therefore, Knec has moved the results announcement to dates that will tell themselves from reliable news sources.

Another reason due to problems in transmission of KCPE results, KCSE results will not be available through SMS. Instead, they will be available through the Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS) portal introduced by CS Machogu. Parents and candidates will have to visit the website and enter the KCSE names and index numbers to get the results. It takes more time to handle the process than before.

2. What is inside a Kenyan heart?

Kenyans said the delay in the release of KCSE results will affect their Christmas spirit and called on KNEC to announce the date.

A section of critics welcomed the delay, saying that the ministry will effectively deal with errors that may occur as evidenced by the KCPE results.

Their concerns arose after KNEC welcomed guests from foreign states to watch the examination progress.

3. How do Kenyans feel about visiting “Mtihani House”?

Most Kenyans feel that something is not working well because they are delaying the release of exams and yet they are inviting foreigners. They raised concerns after KNEC welcomed guests from foreign examination boards on December 19 to watch the results being processed.

“The Director General of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), Dr. David Njengere, welcomes guests from foreign examination boards who are in Kenya this week to monitor the processing of the 2023 KCSE examination. KNEC received guests from Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania, South Sudan, Zambia and Eswatini who are members of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA),” KNEC said.

4. Why are Kenyans worried about delays?

The class of 2019, which has not yet graduated, has faced great challenges since entering the first class, such as four years before the outbreak of the coronavirus, wearing masks while studying, and even others were forced to study from home.

“For a homeschooler without even knowing how to define new high school terminologies, dear parents, this has been a pain and a challenge,” the parents noted.

If the results should be revealed few days before the Christmas celebration as announced earlier. This would give parents enough time to prepare for the day and gift their children properly. After the virus disrupted the education calendar, the ministry released the results depending on the exam timings.
